How did growing up in a spiritually active household influence your initial perception of psychic practices?
Raised by a long lineage of spiritual practitioners, Monique Freeman inherited her gifts from her great-grandmother Exilda, who was best known as a tea leaf reader from down East New Brunswick.
Growing up, it was common practice in her childhood home to wake up and read a dream dictionary to try and make sense of a seemingly nonsensical dream world, or to read her and her mothers daily horoscopes outloud, as well as attend her mothers psychic parties where people would gather in the home and share in their spiritual experiences with one another.
Over the years, as one starts to grow up and experience the pleasures of this world, Monique fell away from her spiritual upbringing and focused her energy on living fast and carefree. Eventually this way of living caught up with her and on one fateful night in September of 2021, Monique had a near-death experience polishing a wine glass at work.
This experience forced her to take a deep look at her life and how she felt about it thus far. She realised that she wasn’t on her rightful path and decided to try and connect back to spirituality, whatever that looked like. Suffering from a pretty bad hand accident, Monique picked up her tarot cards and practised shuffling them everyday.
Each day, shuffling, playing and holding the tarot cards were helping her hand heal. The hospital was amazed at how fast function was returning to her hand, but Monique knew it was the tarot cards and her daily practice. From there, she felt called to learn everything she could about tarot and spent hours every day at the library reading books and studying The Rider Waite.
Fascinated by the meanings and interpretations of each card, Monique started to perform tarot as a party trick for fun and entertainment purposes. It wasn’t long after that people would start coming back to her telling her how accurate the readings were, and would request another reading.
What inspired you to turn your renewed interest in tarot into a business?
From there, a process of helping people let go, move forward, and align themselves with their rightful path began, which inspired Monique to launch her small business, Tarot Magic.
